What if I can’t get through on the phone?

Our lines can be busy—especially first thing in the morning. You can also email us or send a WhatsApp message and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

What if I’m not in pain but something doesn’t feel right?

If it doesn’t qualify as an emergency, we will offer the soonest available appointment and place you on our priority list for earlier availability.

Can you give advice over the phone?

Yes. In some situations, we may offer temporary self-care advice or recommend medication to help manage your symptoms until we can see you.

Are emergency appointments covered under the NHS?

Yes, but NHS charges may still apply depending on the treatment provided. We'll explain any costs clearly before treatment.

At Truss Dental, we understand how worrying dental pain or injury can be. That’s why we offer dedicated emergency care for our registered patients. However, to ensure we treat those who need urgent care most, we follow clear guidance on what qualifies as a dental emergency.

Q: What qualifies as a dental emergency?

Severe pain, uncontrolled bleeding, facial swelling, or trauma such as a knocked-out tooth are all considered emergencies. Minor issues like lost fillings or mild sensitivity do not usually require emergency care.

What Is a Dental Emergency?

A dental emergency is a condition that needs immediate attention to stop severe pain, manage trauma, or prevent serious infection. This includes:

Severe dental pain that does not respond to pain relief

Swelling of the face, mouth, or neck that is getting worse or affecting breathing/swallowing Uncontrolled bleeding from the mouth following trauma or surgery

Dental trauma, such as a knocked-out or displaced tooth

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, please contact us as soon as the practice opens (see our opening hours) for triage. If your condition meets the emergency criteria, you may be offered a same-day appointment in our emergency clinic.

These emergency slots cannot be booked in advance—you must call on the day.
